Enrico Sangiovanni

Enrico Sangiovanni is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacological and Biomolecular Sciences “Rodolfo Paoletti” (DiSFeB) of the University of Milan (UNIMI), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on the anti-inflammatory activity of natural products, particularly at the gastrointestinal and skin levels.

Throughout his career, Enrico Sangiovanni has co-authored more than 113 contributions presented at national and international conferences, 78 peer-reviewed international scientific publications (H-index 28), and 3 book chapters. He has also served as principal investigator or co-investigator in 17 funded research projects. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Interuniversity Research Centre on Malaria (CIRM); since 2012, a member of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (SIF); since 2019, of the Italian Society of Pharmacognosy (SIPHAR); and since 2020, of the IUPHAR Mediterranean Group of Natural Products Pharmacology (IMGNPP), which promotes the study and valorization of natural products from the Mediterranean area (www.imgnpp.org/en).

Currently (a.a. 2025-2026) he is a professor of the courses of “Phytotherapy for the skin”, “Etnopharmacology” and “Pharmacognosy 2”, as well as a member of the Steering Committee, at the Degree Course in Herbal Sciences and Technologies (UNIMI). He also teaches “Pharmacological and Toxicological Activities of Substances of Natural Origin” in the Bachelor’s Degree in Toxicolgy for the Human and Environmental Safety (UNIMI). Among the third mission initiatives, Since 2025, he has been the DiSFeB Delegate for Public Engagement (Third Mission). Among his outreach initiatives, he has organized several editions of“MEETmeTONIGHT– The night of the researchers”, manages the scientific blog of the DiSFeB (www.ricercamix.org) and writes articles dedicated to herbal medicine for the site www.doveecomemicuro.it (www.doveecomemicouro.it/pharma/integratori).
