The research activity of the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy of the Department of Pharmacological and Biomolecular Sciences “Rodolfo Paoletti” is mainly aimed at the study of medicinal and edible plants, in which the pharmacological approach is associated with a rigorous chemical investigation, in order to correlate the observed biological effect on one or more chemical entities.
The main research areas are:
- Anti-inflammatory activity of polyphenols of plant origin
- Study of products of plant origin for topical use
- Research of biological activities with an ethnopharmacological approach
Advanced Course in Health properties of natural products

The Advanced Course in Health Properties of Natural Products, coordinated by Professor Mario Dell’Agli and now in its sixth year for the 2025-2026 academic year, aims to provide professional training in the use and production of medicinal and officinal plants and natural products for health and therapeutic purposes. The advanced training course is accredited by ECM for 50 credits and three scholarships will be awarded based on a merit-based ranking.
