From July 9 to 11, 2025, Milan hosted the XVI National Congress of Food Chemistry, a key event for researchers, academics, and professionals in the sector.
The conference opened at the University of Milan-Bicocca, with the morning dedicated to the Youth Event, an opportunity for young researchers to discuss innovative topics and forge new connections. The conference proceedings began in the afternoon, and continued over the following days in the Aula Magna of the University of Milan (Statale), with scientific sessions, round tables, and expert presentations.
The conference was an important opportunity to explore the latest research and foster networking among food industry professionals.
The Laboratory of Pharmacognosy was also present at the conference, with Dr. Carola Pozzoli presenting her doctoral project in an oral presentation. She specifically addressed the valorization of chestnut waste products for their potential gastrointestinal anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, including a chemical characterization of the resulting extracts. The waste products used (wood, buds, hulls, and peels) were obtained in collaboration with the chestnut growers’ consortium of Brinzio, Orino, and Castello Cabiaglio. The scientific content of Dr. Pozzoli’s presentation received an award “in recognition of the quality of the work performed and the effectiveness of the presentation.”
