Laboratory of Pharmacognosy research awarded

During the XXXIII National Congress of Phytotherapy, organized by the Italian Society of Phytotherapy (S.I.Fit.), which took place in Arezzo from 13 to 16 May, the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy received two valuable awards.

Dr. Safwa Moheb El Haddad received the Italo Taddei Award for her experimental thesis in Pharmacy entitled “From the Ethnopharmacology of Niger to the study of the anti-inflammatory properties of Prosopis africana (Guill. & Perr) Taub. in gastric cells”.

The aim of the thesis, carried out in the Pharmacognosy Laboratory, where Dr. El Haddad carries out her research work as a fellow, was to evaluate the possible effect on gastric inflammation of some plants used in traditional medicine in Niger in the treatment of malaria.

Special mention instead to Dr. Stefano Piazza, researcher, for the best oral presentation, with which he presented the study “Evaluation of the biological activity of glucoraphanin and its metabolite sulforaphane in an in vitro model of celiac inflammation”.

An important success for the research on natural products carried out in the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy.
